Monitoring Groups’ members meetings in Korca schools

After successful implementation of AOb Secondary Education three years Project 
“Teachers mobilisation and organising concrete activities to prevent and eliminateschool dropout and child labour in Korca schools”, the first year of the same Project continuation started with the second year Project implementation in “Nuci Naci” and “Ismail Qemali” schools.

Monitoring Groups’ members meetings were organised in both “Nuci Naci” and “Ismail Qemali” schools in Korca, on Wednesday, 13 November 2013.

25 participants, including monitoring Groups’ members and school Headmaster, Stavri Cano, took part in “Nuci Naci” school meeting.

The Chairmen of FSASH, Xhafer Dobrushi, and SPASH, Nevrus Kaptelli, as well as district sections representatives from FSASH and SPASH, Albina Peppo and Rajmonda Grabocka took part in both meetings.

Heads of Monitoring Groups in “Nuci Naci” school, Sonela Mano, and Monitoring Groups in “Ismail Qemali” school, Thomaq Ninka, held reports on the main conclusions from the questionnaires filled in for each pupils dropped out or at risk to drop out from school, subject of Project implementation, as well as the work done, results achieved, problems faced and the main directions of their work following this project implementation.

Teachers Viktora Vllahu, Bukurie Hyska, Loreta Mihal, Elsa Tona,  in “Nuci Naci” school and Liljana Duni, Nadia Kondili, Altin Collaku, Ardiana Mecollari, in “Ismail Qemali” school, spoke about pupils dropped out and at risk to drop out in their respective groups.

Pupils and parents, members of Monitoring Groups in both schools, as well as Xhafer and Nevrus, took also part in discussions and shared the opinions with teachers and other participants.
The conclusion from these discussions is that the preparative work has been effective and concrete individual work with all pupils subject of this project implementation has started well and the first results in both schools are optimistic.
In “Nuci Naci” school Monitoring Group members and other teachers, pupils and parents are working concretely with more than 40 individual pupils dropped out or at risk to drop out from school.

In “Ismail Qemali” school  they are working concretely with more than 48 individual pupils dropped out or at risk to drop out from school
The impact from last year project implementation is present, it is shown on the number of pupils dropped out from school or at risk to drop out from both schools where the respective numbers are much more lower compared to the last school year.

The basis of concrete individual work have been data gathered through individual questionnaires filled in during preparative work and individual plans prepared by teachers, members of monitoring groups, who are also working in close collaboration with all other teachers in both schools.
Members of monitoring groups spoke concretely, mentioning individual pupils name by name, the work they have done with them, actual situation of each of them and the approaches they are going to use.

They also mentioned the first results achieved:
In “Nuci Naci” school, out of 10 pupils dropped out from school, 1 of them is turned back in school and another 1 is expected to be returned, meanwhile out of 32 pupils at risk to drop out from school, 4 of them are attending the school regularly and other 2 have made some improvements in attending the school.
In “Ismail Qemali” school, out of 11 pupils dropped out from school are turned back 3 of them, while out of 37 pupils at risk to drop out, 6 of them are attending the school regularly, being considered out of risk to drop out and other 2 have made improvements in attending the school.

A direct positive impact has had the distribution of school materials for 80 pupils in both schools, thanks to financial support from this AOb project.
Additional assistance was provided for some other pupils from FSASH and SPASH.

During the discussion was said that some 6 pupils are not attending the school because their families are not able to provide textbooks for them. Under this situation, both chairmen promised to support those families, asking teachers to buy immediately the textbooks for them.

Monitoring Groups and Preparative meetings organised
in “Nuci Naci” and “Ismail Qemali” schools in Korca

One day separated meetings were organised with representatives in both “Nuci Naci” and "Ismailm Qemali" schools on Monday, 23 September 2013.

These meetings were preceded by anticipatory meetings, organised some days ago, with our representatives in Korca District and in both schools, as well as with schools representatives, aiming  to take all the necessary measures, regarding preparations for Project implementation and for these meetings.

A special letter was prepared and distributed to each participant with the main concrete duties for Monitoring Groups members and other stakeholders, as well as special questionnaires for each pupil dropped out or at risk to drop out, subject of this Project implementation.

Meetings with Monitoring Groups members were organised in both schools.

The existing Monitoring Groups, composed of 5 members each, (3 teachers, 1 pupil, 1 parent), were reorganised in both schools. In these first meetings we organised everything regarding their functioning and concrete work to be organised in the framework of Project implementation.
In “Nuci Naci” school each Group is responsible for 3-4 pupils dropped out from school and 13-15 pupils at risk to drop out from school, while in “Ismail Qemali” school each Group is responsible for 3-4 pupils dropped out from school and 14-18  pupils at risk to drop out from school.

Teachers spoke about preparative work they have done to identify individual problems of all pupils dropped out or at risk to drop out from school and their plans how to deal with each of them.
Working program, objectives of Project implementation and role of Monitoring Groups members were also subject of discussions in these meetings.

Wider preparative meetings with participation of working groups members, pupils, parents, representatives from Korca Regional Educational Directorate, Roma association etc, were also organised in both schools after that.
Chairman of FSASH, Xhafer Dobrushi, opened both meetings and spoke about the commitment of FSASH and SPASH to mobilise teachers and support their work to keep pupils in school, to prevent and eliminate child labour, mentioning also the experience gained, during these last three years of AOb Secondary Education Project implementation in Korca schools.

Coordinator of the Project, Stavri Liko, made presentations on Project objectives,  activities to be organised, working program and approaches to be used during this school year Project implementation, mentioning also that this Project is a direct contribution from AOb.
Schools Headmasters Stavri Cano, (“Nuci Naci” school), and Ylli Kreka, (“Ismail Qemali” school), as well as Heads of Monitoring Groups, Sonela Mano and Thomaq Ninka, spoke about the preparative work already done, actual situation in their respective schools, their commitment to work concretely for Project objectives realisation and so on.

Teachers, responsible for each Group, Viktora Vllahu, Bukurie Hyska, Loreta Mihal, Elsa Tona (Shkolla “Nuci Naci”) and Liliana Pulaha, Ana Mecollari, Altin Collaku, Tomas Mihali, (Shkolla “Ismail Qemali” spoke about pupils they are responsible for, difficulties they face and approaches they will use during this year Project implementation.

School materials were also distributed for 80 pupils from both schools, thanks to financial support from AOb. Thanks to this support, each of 80 pupils got a school handbag with some 15 school materials.
Special ceremonies were organised in both schools for distribution of these school materials, during these meetings, in the presence of all participants, including FSASH/SPASH representatives.

Participants and schools’ Headmasters appreciated this support from AOb and expressed once more their commitment to work hard and realise Project objectives.

Complete apparatus for broadcasting messages on loud speakers were also donated to both schools.
